Abstract With Red, TriangleGreen Gate

I started out working in clay, then paper clay, then papers (pure collage), then added paint to my repertoire. I love collecting ephemera wherever I find it and incorporating it into my work. I move pretty fluidly from one medium to the next, but usually I start a canvas—as is the case with both pieces here—by adhering torn bits of found and purchased papers to the surface and amassing layers of paper and paint, alcohol inks, and caran d’ache–obscuring and revealing until an organizing structure emerges. Sometimes what results is objective, sometimes nonobjective. It’s a liberating process whereby I allow what is put down, initially willy-nilly, to speak to my more organized brain. There is both chance and intent in the end result.
