Gather ’Round the Campfire: Submissions Are Open for Our Next Micro-Anthology
What stories do you have to (re)tell?
If you have not yet heard the good news, the MM team is delighted to announce that we are now taking submissions for our next micro-anthology, Tales That Survived the Fire. In this book, we are looking to echo a past time where people congregated around a campfire and were transported by the myths and legends of trickster gods, terrifying monsters, and creatures of all kinds.
What do these tales look like reimagined by contemporary voices? That’s the question this project asks, and we cannot wait to read what you’ve come up with. We’re looking for poetry, flash fiction, hybrid works, and fiction/literary nonfiction short stories that recreate myths from various traditions and cultures. We want to uncover what ghosts (and legends) continue to haunt us, especially if it is a tale that does not often encounter Western audiences.
We will be taking pieces through March 1st or until we reach capacity. Additionally, there is no submission fee, so don’t hesitate to send your work in. For more information on the prompt and our guidelines, make sure you read our official open call on Submittable.
In the meantime, we invite you to join us as we spotlight some of our favorite retellings in the upcoming blog series, Tell It Again. Here, editors of the MM team will revisit the myth adaptations that captured their imaginations as we explore how authors breathe new life into even the most ancient tales. Stay posted for all of our entries as we prepare for the micro-anthology’s publication together.
Ultimately, we cannot wait to dive into the world of fairies, phantoms, heroes, and villains, so grab some marshmallows to toast, strike the embers, and let’s settle in around the fire. With the right story, we can all be transported to a more fantastical reality.
